About this model

<p>Inspired by a <a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" class="editor-link" href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PjNE03u0W3s">recent episode</a> of Tested featuring Adam Savage and Matt Parker, I created a strut system to make tensegrity models using 2mm elastic cordage.&nbsp; Each strut can hold up to 6 knots at each end, two per slot.&nbsp; You can increase the number of slots to 6 or increase the length or diameter using the source scad file.</p><p>To build the pictured model, you will need 6 struts and cut 24 segments of elastic to 56mm each.&nbsp; Tie a knot at each end such that the length between knots is approximately 36mm when not under tension.&nbsp; I recommend having an extra set of hands available for assembly (see linked video above), as holding the struts in place is difficult until finished.&nbsp; If you are assembling yourself, try using twist ties to keep the first two struts together until the assembly is completed.&nbsp; The caps are optional and can be glued in to place after assembly.</p><p>I print my struts horizontally with one slot facing up and use "Support on build plate only" for best results.</p>

How it works

  • You pick the model; we fetch the designer’s file and print it in our UK workshop.
  • Every piece is hand-finished and quality-checked before it ships, like everything in our shop.
  • Printed in PLA, a plant-based material. More about our material.

This design was created and shared by an independent designer and remains their property. Every model offered for printing here has a licence that permits commercial printing. The original model page and licence are linked above.
