What actually works as a housewarming gift
The difficulty with a new home is that you are buying for a room you have probably not seen yet. That rules out anything that has to match a colour scheme, and it rules out anything the couple may already own two of.
What survives that test tends to be small, characterful and free-standing. A wine bottle holder needs no wall, no shelf and no matching. A mood lamp works in a bedroom, a hallway or a living room without being asked to fit in. Both are the kind of thing people keep for years precisely because nobody buys them for themselves.
