Mood Lamps and Table Lamps

Sculptural lamps that throw patterned light, printed and finished to order.

What a printed lamp does that a bought one does not

The reason these lamps look the way they do is that the printing process lays down material in fine layers, and light passing through those layers picks up the texture. You get a soft banded glow through the shade and a pattern thrown onto the wall behind it. It is not an effect you can get from moulded plastic or glass, which is why printed lamps look distinctly like themselves.

Choosing where to put one

These are ambient lamps rather than task lamps. They are designed to be the second or third light in a room, not the one you read by. That makes them best on a bedside table, a shelf, a windowsill or a hallway console, ideally with a plain wall close behind so the cast pattern has somewhere to land.

The Bonsai lamp is USB powered, which makes it the practical choice for a desk or anywhere without a convenient socket.

They arrive ready to use

Every lamp comes with its LED bulb already fitted, so there is nothing to buy and nothing to work out when it lands. Unbox it, plug it in, done.

One thing worth knowing for later: if you ever replace the bulb, use an LED again. The shade is printed in PLA, which softens at a much lower temperature than glass, so a halogen or old-style filament bulb can damage it. LEDs run cool enough that this never becomes an issue, which is why they are fitted as standard.

Colour changes the effect

Where a lamp offers a colour choice, it changes more than the look of the shade when it is switched off. Lighter shades let more light through and give a broader, softer glow across the room. Darker shades hold the light in and throw a sharper, more defined pattern onto the surface behind. Neither is better, but they suit different rooms: lighter for a bedroom, darker where you want the pattern itself to be the feature.

Frequently asked questions

Are these bright enough to read by?
No. They are ambient mood lamps designed to be a secondary light source, giving a soft glow and a pattern cast on the wall behind.
Do the lamps come with a bulb?
Yes. Every lamp arrives with its LED bulb already fitted, so there is nothing extra to buy.
What bulb should I use if I replace it?
An LED. The shade is printed in PLA, which softens at a much lower temperature than glass, so a halogen or old-style filament bulb can damage it. LEDs run cool, which is why they are fitted as standard.
Is the Bonsai lamp USB powered?
It is, which makes it the easiest option for a desk or anywhere without a nearby socket.
Why do printed lamps have that banded texture?
It is the print itself. The lamp is built up in fine layers, and light passing through those layers picks up the texture, which is what gives the soft banding and the cast pattern.
Can I choose the lamp colour?
Yes, where a colour picker is shown on the product page. Lighter colours transmit more light and give a softer overall glow; darker colours give a sharper cast pattern.
