About this model

A self-refilling drinking station for bees, wasps (why not?), and other pollinators. Fill an ordinary plastic bottle, screw it into the central socket, and flip the whole thing over: air pressure holds the water in until the level in the tray drops below the bottle mouth, at which point a bubble goes up and a little water comes down. The tray stays topped up at a constant, shallow depth for days without any attention.

Bees can't swim. They need water that's shallow enough to reach from a solid footing which is why they end up drowning in birdbaths, pet bowls and pond edges. The honeycomb here isn't just decoration: the cell walls stand about 3 mm above the waterline and give hundreds of dry landing edges right next to the water.
