About this model
<p>Five printed parts that let a five frame Pro Nuc run its entrance through a wall on a length of 1 inch corrugated pond hose. I built these because a nuc in my apiary was robbed out. In a dearth, a small colony in a high pressure yard spends the weeks when it is least able to defend itself doing nothing but defending. So instead of fighting that with entrance reducers and robbing screens, I put the colony in my garage and ran its entrance out through the wall. It gets to grow somewhere nothing can find it, and it goes out to the apiary once it is strong enough to hold a door.</p><p>WHAT THE PARTS DO</p><p>At the box: two adapters, each a pair of plates that sandwich the box wall on four fasteners. Nothing is threaded into plastic and nothing depends on the box wall holding a screw. The plates are drawn around the opening the Pro Nuc already has, so they slot into the existing hole. THE BOX IS NOT CUT OR DRILLED AT ALL and the whole assembly comes off again. One adapter is the tunnel, the other plugs the second opening so the box has exactly one way in and out. At the wall: one deeper part that passes through and carries a landing ledge on the outside.</p><p>THE WALL HOLE IS 35 MM</p><p>Deliberately. 35 mm is the standard cabinet hinge cup size, so it is a Forstner bit most people with a drill already own.
