About the Polaris Lamp

What is the Polaris Lamp made from?
The Polaris Lamp is 3D printed in PLA (polylactic acid), a plant-based plastic made from fermented plant starch. It is BPA-free, free from phthalates, and industrially compostable at end-of-life. More on our material choice.
Can I choose the colour of the Polaris Lamp?
Yes. Each Polaris Lamp is printed to order, so you choose the colour at checkout: Shade — pick from Bronze, Cherry Wood, Dark Rainbow, Oak Wood, Red, Walnut Wood, Orange, Yellow, Mint, Sky Blue, Royal Blue, Purple, Pink, White, Black, Cream, Olive. The piece is then printed specifically in your chosen colour(s).
Will the colour exactly match what I see on screen?
It will be very close, but every screen renders colour a little differently, so treat the swatches as a faithful guide rather than a pixel-perfect match. Natural filament shades can also vary very slightly between batches. If an exact shade matters for your space, message us before ordering and we’ll help.
How do I look after the Polaris Lamp?
PLA softens around 60 °C, so avoid direct exposure to a hot car windscreen in summer, the top of a radiator, or a south-facing conservatory shelf. Dust with a soft dry cloth; for stickier marks, a damp cloth with a tiny amount of mild detergent works fine — don’t soak it, and don’t put PLA pieces in a dishwasher.
Does the Polaris Lamp come ready to use?
Yes — the Polaris Lamp arrives fully wired with a fitted UK mains plug, ready to plug straight in. The only thing you add is a bulb, which we don’t supply. Because PLA softens at around 60 °C, please fit a cool-running LED (low-energy) bulb only — never a halogen or traditional incandescent bulb, which can get hot enough to warp or scorch the print.
How long until the Polaris Lamp ships?
Each Polaris Lamp is printed and finished after you place the order. Typical lead time is around 7 working days before dispatch. After that, UK delivery is 3–5 working days by tracked Royal Mail (£4.95, free over £75); Europe is 5–10 working days (£12); Rest of World 7–21 working days (£18). All international shipments are tracked. Full shipping policy.
Can I return the Polaris Lamp if I change my mind?
Pieces customised with your palette choices are personalised, so they are not returnable for a change of mind under our 14-day return policy. We do replace any piece that arrives damaged, faulty or wrongly shipped. Full returns policy.
Will the Polaris Lamp have visible layer lines?
Yes — a little. The Polaris Lamp is built up layer by layer, so on close inspection you’ll see a fine horizontal texture, and you may notice the odd tiny imperfection. That’s the honest nature of 3D printing — it’s a handmade-to-order piece, not a glass-smooth injection-moulded product. We print at a fine layer height and hand-finish every piece to keep the texture subtle and even, and most people find it adds to the character. If you’d like a piece with a particular finish in mind, just ask us before ordering.
Is the Polaris Lamp actually handmade, or just machine-printed?
It's both, honestly. The shape itself is laid down by a 3D printer (that's the only way to get these levels of detail at this price), but every piece is queued, monitored, finished and quality-checked by hand in our small UK workshop. We don't drop-ship from overseas warehouses and we don't hold ready-made stock. More about our process.
