About the Sunflower Windmill

What is the Sunflower Windmill made from?
The Sunflower Windmill is 3D printed in PLA (polylactic acid), a plant-based plastic made from fermented plant starch. It is BPA-free, free from phthalates, and industrially compostable at end-of-life. More on our material choice.
Can the Sunflower Windmill go outdoors?
Yes — the Sunflower Windmill is designed for outdoor display. PLA does have limited long-term UV resistance though, so for the longest life we suggest bringing the piece indoors over the harshest UK winter months or siting it in part shade rather than full all-day summer sun. Light rain and normal seasonal weather are fine.
How do I look after the Sunflower Windmill?
PLA softens around 60 °C, so avoid direct exposure to a hot car windscreen in summer, the top of a radiator, or a south-facing conservatory shelf. Dust with a soft dry cloth; for stickier marks, a damp cloth with a tiny amount of mild detergent works fine — don’t soak it, and don’t put PLA pieces in a dishwasher.
How long until the Sunflower Windmill ships?
Each Sunflower Windmill is printed and finished after you place the order. Typical lead time is around 7 working days before dispatch. After that, UK delivery is 3–5 working days by tracked Royal Mail (£4.95, free over £75); Europe is 5–10 working days (£12); Rest of World 7–21 working days (£18). All international shipments are tracked. Full shipping policy.
Can I return the Sunflower Windmill if I change my mind?
Yes — within 14 days of delivery if the Sunflower Windmill is unused and in its original packaging. Return shipping is at your cost for change-of-mind returns; we cover it for damaged or wrongly shipped pieces. Full returns policy.
Will the Sunflower Windmill have visible layer lines?
Yes — a little. The Sunflower Windmill is built up layer by layer, so on close inspection you’ll see a fine horizontal texture, and you may notice the odd tiny imperfection. That’s the honest nature of 3D printing — it’s a handmade-to-order piece, not a glass-smooth injection-moulded product. We print at a fine layer height and hand-finish every piece to keep the texture subtle and even, and most people find it adds to the character. If you’d like a piece with a particular finish in mind, just ask us before ordering.
Is the Sunflower Windmill actually handmade, or just machine-printed?
It's both, honestly. The shape itself is laid down by a 3D printer (that's the only way to get these levels of detail at this price), but every piece is queued, monitored, finished and quality-checked by hand in our small UK workshop. We don't drop-ship from overseas warehouses and we don't hold ready-made stock. More about our process.
